Anthropic Expands Labs to Turn Frontier Experiments Into Products
Anthropic created an expanded Labs team to incubate experimental Claude products before they move into its mainstream offering.
Anthropic said it was expanding Labs, a product incubation group intended to test experiences at the edge of Claude’s capabilities before they are made broadly dependable. The company positioned the team as a bridge between research prototypes and products that can be operated at scale.
The announcement matters because it made the productization of agents a named organizational priority. Anthropic pointed to Claude Code, MCP, Skills, Claude in Chrome and Cowork as examples of ideas that began as experiments before being developed into broader offerings. For buyers, the distinction is useful: a compelling agent demo and a supported workflow are still different product stages.
